Removal, check of a state and installation of a gas-distributing belt and cogwheels of the GRM drive

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!


2. Prop up back wheels antiretractable boots and strongly cock the parking brake.
3. Weaken nuts of fastening of forward wheels, then a front of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props (see the Head Routine maintenance).
4. Remove forward wheels and protection of a case of the engine.
5. Prop up a jack the power unit (for the purpose of distribution of loading lay wooden whetstone between a head of a jack and the pallet of a case of the engine).
6. Remove an arm of the top support of the engine (see Check of a state and replacement of support of a suspension bracket of the power unit).
7. Turn out spark plugs and take off driving belts (see. Routine maintenance).
8. Otboltite the steering pump also shift it aside, without disuniting hydraulic lines (see the Head Podvesk and steering).
9. Remove the actuation mechanism of a control system of the speed (tempostat) (see the Head Onboard electric equipment).
10. Bring the piston of the first cylinder into the provision of VMT of the end of a step of compression (see Adjustment of seats).

The bent shaft should be turned only in the normal direction (counterclockwise) – failure to follow this requirement will lead to violation of adjustments of a gas-distributing belt.


11. Uncover a head of cylinders (see the Equipment and governing bodies in salon).

12a. Remove the central cover of a gas-distributing belt.

12b. Remove the lower cover of a gas-distributing belt. (see accompanying illustrations). The top cover is combined with a head cover.

13. Half way weaken a bolt of a natyazhitel of a belt (see an accompanying illustration). Having wrung out a natyazhitel, weaken a belt, then again tighten a bolt.

14. By means of a chain or tape key block a pulley of a bent shaft from a provorachivaniye, then a face key weaken a bolt of fastening of a pulley (see an accompanying illustration).

15. Remove a pulley from a pin of a bent shaft.

16. If the old belt is in good repair and will be established into place, mark with chalk or white paint the original direction of its rotation and situation concerning cogwheels of shaft (see an accompanying illustration).

17. Weaken a bolt of fastening of a natyazhitel. Having wrung out a natyazhitel, weaken a belt, then again tighten a bolt. Throw off a belt from cogwheels and take off it from the engine. If removal of a belt is made for the purpose of performance of replacement of an epiploon of a bent shaft, throw off from a pin of the last a cogwheel and an internal guide of a belt (see Security systems).
18. If there is a need for removal of camshafts, or replacement of their epiploons, pass the big screw-driver through an opening in a cogwheel of the corresponding shaft for the purpose of blocking it from a provorachivaniye, then a face key weaken a fixing bolt and remove a wheel. Take a segment spline from a camshaft pin. The wheel of the second shaft is removed in a similar manner.

Check

Try not to allow provorachivaniye of cogwheels cranked or camshafts at the taken-off GRM drive belt in order to avoid damage of valves as a result of their blow about the bottoms of pistons.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Manually check freedom of rotation of a roller of a natyazhitel, then pull it here and there, checking for existence of a side play in the bearing (see an illustration to paragraph 13). The defective roller is subject to replacement.

2. Attentively examine a gas-distributing belt on both sides, checking it for existence of signs of wear (especially persistent walls of teeths), cracks, cuts, attritions and traces of oiling (see an accompanying illustration). The defective belt is subject to obligatory replacement.


If only the run of the engine is not really small, replacement of a belt is recommended to be made regardless of its state. Do not install an old belt on the engine at all, for all hundred percent being not sure of serviceability of its state.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. If removed, establish into place cogwheels of shaft (do not forget about segment splines of wheels of camshafts and an internal guide of a belt on a bent shaft). Tighten bolts of fastening of cogwheels of camshafts with the required effort (see Specifications).

2. Before installation of a belt make sure that cogwheels of camshafts are established by a tag of "UP" up. Adjusting tags have to be combined with the index on a back cover of a belt (see an accompanying illustration).


At emergence of resistance immediately stop a shaft provorachivaniye in order to avoid damage of valves as a result of blow about the bottoms of pistons. Accurately correct the provision of cogwheels of camshafts, then repeat attempt.


3. Temporarily establish into place and fix by a bolt a pulley of a bent shaft, then turn a shaft (if he was hit) so that the adjusting tag on its cogwheel was combined with the response index on the case of the oil pump (see an accompanying illustration).

4. Densely put on a belt a cogwheel of a bent shaft, then carry out it under a roller of a natyazhitel and around cogwheels of the water pump and camshafts. Weaken a bolt of a natyazhitel, having provided a belt tension, then temporarily tighten a bolt.
5. Accurately turn a bent shaft six times in the direction counterclockwise, then make sure of correctness of an arrangement of adjusting tags of cogwheels of camshafts (see illustrations above). If the bent shaft is turned with breakthroughs, or got jammed, it is not necessary to apply force as it can lead to damage of valves at blow them about the bottoms of pistons (if adjustment is brought down). Take off a belt and repeat the procedure, paying special attention to combination of adjusting tags.
6. For adjustment of effort of a tension of a belt weaken half way (180 °) a bolt of a natyazhitel and turn a bent shaft in the direction counterclockwise on three teeth for the provision of VMT. Now tighten a bolt with the required effort (see Specifications).
7. Establish into place all components which were removed in the course of dismantle.
8. Adjust efforts of a tension of driving belts (see the Head Routine maintenance).
9. Start the engine and check serviceability of its functioning.
