System of electronic injection of fuel (EFI) – the general information

All cars considered in the present manual are equipped with system of programmable injection of fuel (PGM-FI) (see illustrations at the beginning of the present Chapter) which can be functionally broken into three main subsystems: system of air supply, electronic control system and fuel supply system. Control of functioning of system is exercised by the module of control of the power (RSM) complete with information sensors (temperatures of cooling liquid, the provision of a butterfly valve [TPS], absolute pressure in the pipeline [MAR], etc.). on the basis of the analysis of information of RSM arriving from sensors defines composition of air-fuel mix optimum at the moment.

Functioning of system of injection is close crossed with work of system of decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases, information on which it can be obtained from materials of the Head of the Control system of the engine is more detailed.

System of air supply

The system consists of the air cleaner, air sleeves, the case of a throttle, the device of stabilization of turns of idling and the inlet pipeline. The volume resonator which is switched on in structure of an inlet air duct allows to reduce the level of the noise made by the engine significantly.

Cases of a throttle has a single-chamber design, cross and line on the Civic models with D16Y5 and D16Y8 engines, and niskhodyashche-line on all others. The lower part of the case of a throttle is warmed up by cooling liquid of the engine in order to avoid frosting in frosty weather. The screw of adjustment of turns of idling is located from above on the throttle case. The sensor of provision of a butterfly valve (TPS) is connected to an axis of the last and traces extent of its opening.

Electronic control system

The structure and the principle of functioning of an electronic control system and RSM are in detail considered in the Head of the Control system of the engine.

Fuel supply system

Are among components of a fuel supply system: the electric fuel pump of submersible type, the fuel pressure regulator, injection injectors, a quencher of pulsations of fuel (it is applied only on some models) and the main relay of system of injection.

The electric fuel pump is located in a gasoline tank. The pump sucks in fuel from a tank through the filtering element, then pumps over it via the additional fuel filter and gives to injection injectors.

The regulator of pressure of fuel provides a constant pressure of supply of fuel to injectors. Excess fuel on the returnable line goes back to a gasoline tank.

Injectors represent electromagnetic valves with the constant course. The main components of an injector are: the operating electromagnet, a plunger and the needle valve. All listed details are placed in the general case. When passing electric current on the solenoid coil the needle valve is slightly opened and fuel under a pressure fills a cavity of the case of an injector and vypryskivatsya through its nozzle. The amount of injectable fuel is defined by duration of time of opening of the valve, i.e., duration of giving of tension on the electromagnet coil.

Lasting inclusions of injectors RSM operates. In memory of the module basic values of time of opening of valves for various combinations of the entering parameters (turns of the engine and amount of the soaked-up air) are put. Necessary information arrives on the module in the form of signals from various sensors of the engine.

The main relay of system of injection is installed at the left or on the right before a windshield under the panel of a fairing and the second consists of two working elements, one of which represents the RSM relay and injectors of fuel, and – the relay of the fuel pump.
