Cleaning of the block of the engine


1. Remove the bridge of covers of radical bearings (Civic) or the bridge and covers (Integra) and take from the beds in covers and the block inserts of bearings. Mark inserts by means of an adhesive tape on compliance them to the beds (bearing No., a block/cover) and put them aside.

2. On the Integra models equipped with the VTEC system to an otboltita also remove from the block masloraspylitel (see an accompanying illustration). Diameter of a nozzle of a spray equals 1.27 mm and the drill of 1 mm has to be passed throughout it freely. Enter a shaft of a drill into an inlet opening of a spray and wring out them a control ball. The ball has to move freely and at an otpuskaniye to come back to a starting position due to the effort developed by a spring. In case of identification of signs of weakening of a spring, give compressed air to an inlet opening. The ball has to, overcoming the effort developed by a spring, to depart from a saddle with a pressure not less than 1.96 kgfs/cm of 2, otherwise the spray is subject to replacement.

3. Scratch out all traces of material of old laying from the interfaced surface of the block – try not to leave zadir.
4. Remove all covers and carving caps of oil galleries from the block. Caps are usually tightened very hardly therefore, quite perhaps, they should be drilled with the subsequent restoration of a carving in an opening. At assembly of the block of a cap it is necessary to replace new.

5a. Now it is necessary to take release traffic jams of a water shirt from the block. By means of the hammer and a stupid drift wrap one edge of a stopper in the block, then grasp the turned-out opposite edge with nippers...

5b.... take a stopper from the engine (see accompanying illustrations).

Try not to hammer incidentally a stopper in the engine. Take all traffic jams.

6. At strong external pollution of the engine it is necessary to bring him in a workshop of car service for steam cleaning or heat treatment.
7. After return of the block from a workshop once again carefully clean all its oil openings and galleries – for this purpose special cylindrical brushes of a special form are issued (ask in shops of automobile accessories). Wash out cavities and channels warm water – continue washing until from the opposite side of the block clear water does not begin to follow. Carefully dry up the block, then slightly oil all pierced surfaces liquid for protection them from corrosion. In the presence of access to a source of compressed air use it for acceleration of process of drying of the block and a purge of remote cavities and channels.

During the work with compressed air do not forget to put on goggles!

8. At strong pollution or a zashlakovyvaniye of the block it is necessary to resort to brush cleaning by hot water with soap. It is not necessary to try to save time at the expense of the negligent relation to cleaning of the block. Regardless of the chosen way, track care of a clearing of remote cavities, channels and openings. In conclusion dry the block and oil the pierced surfaces liquid for protection them from corrosion.

9. Banish all bolted openings in the block a tap of the corresponding size (see an accompanying illustration) for the purpose of a guarantee of compliance of indications of the indicator of a dynamometer key to really developed efforts of tightening of fixture at assembly of the engine. Whenever possible, blow then openings compressed air, having removed from them all small garbage and shaving. Having finished processing of openings, walk a lerka by a carving part of bolts.

10. Establish to the place of a cover of radical bearings, having by hand tightened their fixture.

11. Grease the surfaces of new release traffic jams interfaced to the block with sealant (Permatex No. 1 type) and put them perpendicularly in the engine. For landing of release traffic jams special devices, any of which can be successfully replaced with the replaceable face head suitable by the size, are issued (see an accompanying illustration). The head has to enter a stopper rather densely.

12. Grease with noncongealable sealant a carving of new caps and a zakuporta them openings of oil galleries. Track durability of tightening of caps.
13. If you are not going to start immediately assembly of the engine, place the block in a big plastic bag for protection of its pollution.
